| Rare finds
Relatively little clothing of the Tudor period exists
and what has survived tends to be sumptuous and ornate, not the
working clothes of the common man.
The remains of clothing found on the Mary Rose provides
invaluable dated evidence as to the types of clothing worn by the
officers, mariners and soldiers.

One of the most exciting finds is a hat made of
silk and velvet, which was worn by the Barber Surgeon and is on
display in the Mary Rose.
The buttons, buckles, laces, jerkins, hats, mittens,
the many styles of shoes and boots, and even a scogger (the Tudor
equivalent of a leg warmer) can help to provide clothing specialists
with a picture of what Tudor men at sea were wearing in 1545.
