Recovering the remains of the hull in one piece

1. June, 1982
A tubular steel lifting frame, supported on four legs, was placed above the wreck. Lifting wires were attached to steel bolts which passed through the hull to backing plates on its outside

2. September 30 - October 1, 1982
The lifting frame was raised up the shafts of the legs using hydraulic jacks, until the Mary Rose was suspended above the seabed.

3. October 9, 1982
When the tide and weather were suitable, the hull, suspended by the lifting frame, was raised by the crane Tog Mor and transferred underwater to a steel cradle, lined with air bags, which had been placed on the seabed, west of the wreck.

4. October 11, 1982
Once the hull was safely in the cradle, the whole package, weighing 570 tonnes, was lifted and placed on the deck of a barge ready to be towed to the naval base.
